Povey's Oatcakes
Povey's Oatcakes
Staffordshire oatcakes are a local delicacy and in no way resemble Scottish oatcakes. They look like an Indian chapatti or even a Mexican tortilla- there seem to be several opinions on how they originated, one story being that local housewives invented them for their soldier-husbands returning from service in the Indian Raj who complained of missing the food from there (hence the resemblance to the chapatti). They are eaten hot and rolled up with a filling of your choice. Povey's themselves are a long established Stoke-on-Trent based company, but a fairly recent newcomer to Biddulph.
