The Crow's Nest at Stairhaven
The Crow's Nest at Stairhaven
The Crow's Nest is one of the many sites along the Solway coast which features prominently in the history of smuggling. Stairhaven came much later - the Earl of Stair constructed a small harbour and port here in 1840. It didn't last long as a commercial venture. The coming of the railway meant that it was more or less redundant within 10 years.
