Cordwood stacks in Pound Wood
Cordwood stacks in Pound Wood
After coppicing (mainly Hornbeam) the cut stems are cut into lengths of approximately four feet and stacked as cords, four feet high and eight feet long. They are allowed to mature for a year before being logged and sold as firewood. The old man pointing the way was 88 at the time and lived for another few years as an active coppicer.
