Notes on the Battle of Kilsyth :: NS7479
The battle between the Royalist force of the Marquis of Montrose for Charles I and the People's Army of Covenanters led by General William Baillie took place to the eastern end of the present Townhead Reservoir and the lands to the north around Auchinvalley.
Around 6,000 men of the Covenanting army were slain and lie under the ground in these parts.
