Corner of Cross Street and Fenkle Street
Corner of Cross Street and Fenkle Street
Cross Street (to the right) runs along the south-east side of Charlotte Square. It used to be called Ratten, or Rotten Row. The little building on the corner, built as a house, used to be the Crystal Fountain Inn which closed in 1892. As a shop, it was one of the earliest Chinese supermarkets in Newcastle.
The road to the left is Fenkle Street which crosses Clayton Street to join Westgate Road near the Assembly Rooms.
