Decaying tree by the Tees
Decaying tree by the Tees
Just after stepping over a stile (when heading west), one finds this dead and decaying fallen tree lying between the Pennine Way footpath and the steep north bank of the River Tees. The bank itself in mainly colonised by birch and alder, but this was something more substantial, most probably Ash, in which case the sapling now growing next to it will grow into its replacement.
