Ragley Hall - 2
The south elevation seen from the gardens. House owners the Seymour family originally came to the country via the Norman invasion (originally St Maur). There are many royal connections, but perhaps the most famous family member was Lady Jane Seymour, who became the third wife of Henry VIII in 1536 and gave birth to Edward, the much desired male heir. Due to the difficult birth, she died shortly after. Her elder brother became Earl of Hertford and Duke of Somerset, and became Lord Protector during the reign of the young king Edward VI. Another brother, Thomas, became Lord High Admiral of England. Both brothers were eventually beheaded and now rest in the Tower of London. A sad ending for all three!
