Bleak Law
Bleak Law
Heather of different ages, as part of the moorland management system. The foreground was burnt a probably two years previously and is now covered in young shoots of heather (burning does not kill off the plants, the root system survives). This provides food for the grouse, which along with the sheep are the main "crop" here. Long heather is left for shelter and nest sites. The grouse are very vocal at this time, and there are a lot of grouse up here.
