Trent and Mersey Canal near Wychnor, Staffordshire
Trent and Mersey Canal near Wychnor, Staffordshire
The pound between Wychnor Lock and Alrewas Lock includes a short stretch about two hundred metres south of here where the canal merges with the River Trent, Consequently, here the actual water level fluctuates considerably after persistent heavy rain. The towpath (and public footpath) here on the west side is built on stilts. At several points this effectively provides bridges across intermittent streams and other places where flood water flows off the plain, back to the river. These have now been given numbers, as if they were crossing the canal. The one in this picture is number 45D.
