St Mary's Church, Reigate - the nave
More properly known as St Mary Magdalene Church, or Reigate Parish Church, its existence was first documented in the 12th century, although there was probably a church on the site before 1066.

It originally consisted of an aisleless nave and a central tower, with the side aisles being added before the end of the 12th century, which would have included piercing the side walls and replacing them with the pillared arches either side of the central nave. An unusual feature is that none of the pillars line up with each other, and all are different in design.

The three part rood screen is medieval, later restored as part of work carried out in the church by the architect Henry Woodyer in 1845. The pews were designed by Gilbert Scott Junior in the 1870s, as part of some further work done on the church then (including the rebuilding of the tower and nave). Other additions to the nave include various galleries in the 18th and 19th century, subsequently removed as part of Woodyer's and Scott's restorations.
