St Mary's Church, Reigate - the Elyott monument
St Mary's Church, Reigate - the Elyott monument
Situated in the north section of the chancel having been moved here (and damaged in the process) as part of Henry Woodyer's 1845 restoration of the church, this monument is to Sir Richard Elyott and his son Richard, who died in 1608 and 1612 respectively. Sir Richard, who lived in Reigate Lodge (which occupied the land between what is now Church Street, Croydon Road and the railway), was a justice of the peace and Richard junior was a servant of Henry, Prince of Wales.

One of Sir Richard's daughters also has a monument in the church (see TQ2550 : St Mary's Church, Reigate - the Katherine Elyott monument).
