The ruins of St Andrew's church - the south-west corner
This ruined church is very difficult to find and even more difficult to access. Perched above Whitlingham Lane and the River Yare, surrounded by tall trees and very much overgrown by ivy, it is hemmed in on the other side by the busy A47 southern bypass road. The whole northern part of the building appears to have fallen down the slope and its round tower collapsed in 1940. Apparently there have been attempts to preserve the ruin if only as an aesthetic focal point since Whitlingham was a favourite romantic walking spot in the 18th century. What remains to-date is the chancel south wall and part of the nave wall. See also: LinkExternal link
