Setting off to paddle the Middle Wharfe
Setting off to paddle the Middle Wharfe
Canoeists usually take the Middle Wharfe to be the section from Kettlewell to Linton, though many groups miss out the upper part of this and put on at SD9767 : Conistone bridge. The Kettlewell put-in is river left immediately upstream of the bridge shown here, and the trip commences with a series of shallow shingle rapids - a bit of a bump and a scrape in the medium to low winter level we found on this trip. The river continues in the same vein for most of the 5 km to Conistone, livened up from time to time by features such as SD9770 : Ledge drop on the Middle Wharfe.
