The Hampshire Weed
The Hampshire Weed
The natural distribution of yew (Taxus baccata) is widespread throughout Britain and Europe to Iran. Whilst it is commonly found in woods and hedgerows yew is not usually regarded as a dominant species and yews more often occur as individual trees. However, they thrive on downland; in Hampshire the yew is locally known as 'the Hampshire weed'.
