NY6690 : Janus Chairs

taken 8 years ago, near to Kielder Forest [forest or Wood], Northumberland, Great Britain

Janus Chairs
Janus Chairs
Situated on the end of a promontory, the last of the new series of sculptures to be installed along the north shore of Kielder Water in 2009. The three rotating chairs - small, medium and large, or more accurately large, extra large and enormous - are all different in width and height. They afford a modicum of shelter and can be rotated to give different views of the lake.

According to the explanatory plaque, the architects were inspired by the flora of Kielder Water and Forest Park's landscape. They said 'Facing inward, the seats are a closed bud of a flower. Rotated outward, they come into bolo. They form a constantly changing composition dependent upon their position.'
