Eagle Tower, Bath Road, Cheltenham
The 1960's design of the Eagle Tower building is a prominent landmark in Cheltenham. It is inconceivable that a building of this height - 161 feet - could be built here today. It was opened in 1968 and was used by Eagle Star Insurance.

There is no doubt that it strikes an incongruent note to the visitor as it is on an entirely different scale to any other building in the vicinity.

However, I think it achieves the spirit of many of the architects at that time, which was in part to signal the advent of an entirely new age. Unlike many of its counterparts elsewhere, it does not show any signs of serious deterioration. On balance, I think the building probably has some serious merit, as its design has some variations and the associated buildings in the assembly are complementary and provide another focus on which to follow the design features.
