Wrexham & Shropshire Railways runs a direct service from Wrexham, north Shropshire and the west Midlands to London Marylebone.

The ex-GWR (Great Western Railway) London to Birmingham main line climbs out of the River Avon valley west of Warwick along a five-mile section known as Hatton bank. For much of the five miles, the gradient is 1:110.
