SO8171 : Light at the end of the tunnel?

Light at the end of the tunnel?
Light at the end of the tunnel?
On the Multi-Agency "Magic" map, this is marked as a subway, going under both the old dismantled branch railway to the demolished power station, and under the former main Stourport line. The entrance here is under the power station branch. The footpath in the foreground has come from the nearby end of Summerfield Road. Here it is quite definitely going into the tunnel, so undoubtedly there was a through footpath route here at one time.

I ventured into the tunnel a short distance but it was unlit, so I went no further. If it does still go anywhere then I think it would lead up to the line of the former Stourport railway, but it seems unlikely. Certainly the entrance to the subway on the other side of the Stourport line still exists, but it has been blocked off after a few yards. Just before the tunnel entrance shown in this picture, there is a branch footpath to the right. Walking it is only just marginally more attractive than entering the tunnel.

The other end:- SO8171 : Sealed-off tunnel under former railway line, Stourport-on-Severn.
