Dairy calf in its hutch
Dairy calf in its hutch
It is present-day farming practice to separate dairy calves from their mothers immediately after birth and to raise them either in calf nurseries or individually in so-called calf hutches such as seen here. The calves are fed with milk replacers, whereas the milk that their mothers produce is sold. The dairy cows are kept in the shed seen in the background.
