TF5323 : Sugar beet heap at Sharpe's Bank

Sugar beet heap at Sharpe's Bank
Sugar beet heap at Sharpe's Bank
Situated in the Wingland Marsh/Terrington Marsh area of land reclaimed from the sea. Sharpe's Bank was once on a sea bank on the edge of The Wash. It is now about 2.5km inland and several sections have been completely removed to give access to farms and to build up the low lying reclaimed fields. Looking at the OS map this bank was probably the same one as The Bank of 1910 several hundred metres to the left. The sugar beet is heaped where part of the bank has been removed. Looking at a across section through this bank it's amazing how may thousands of tons of soil were moved without the help of any machinery when these banks were built.
