Take-out at Church Farm
Take-out at Church Farm
The Upper Wharfe, in paddlers' parlance runs from Beckermonds to Hubberholme, after which the river has too low a gradient to provide any sport until well below Kettlewell. SD9278 : The end of the run, Upper Wharfe is under the bridge on which the photographer is standing, and the easiest take-out is on river left into the layby, in front of Church Farm and Cottage. Opposite is the George Inn, a handy place for a pint or a warming coffee if another river is not on the cards. On this trip, despite less snowmelt than we had hoped for, the river had run quickly enough that we were waiting impatiently for the shuttle run to retrieve the other vehicle, so that we could head down the valley to the Middle Wharfe which had more water, as illustrated by SD9963 : Linton main weir at a good level.
