A busy afternoon at Colwich Lock, Staffordshire
A busy afternoon at Colwich Lock, Staffordshire
Trent and Mersey Canal, Lock No 21, (raises the water level by 6ft 6in - about two metres).

On this autumn Thursday afternoon we had a temporary mechanical problem. At one time there was a queue of five waiting to enter the lock, and the delay was over an hour (some boaters are very slow). In this image we have rectified the problem, and are approaching at about 0.2 mph, ready to take up third position. There are insufficient piling and bollards for more than two waiting boats, so rather than stand on the bank holding a rope, we are in hover mode on the north side of the canal. When the boat which has left the lock passes us, we will cross to where the others are waiting.
