War Department Marker Stone, Jawbone Hill, near Oughtibridge
War Department Marker Stone, Jawbone Hill, near Oughtibridge
This, and other similar stones, were placed in this area to signify that the area of land within them was for use by the War Department. The stone has WD etched into one side. Nearby are the ruins of a WW2 Water Tower and Air Raid Shelter. The area, at the top of Jawbone Hill was used for an Anti-Aircraft Battery ... or other sources suggest it was for the underground storage of Ammunition.
