Plaque, Victoria Inn
The sign was once the corporate logo or sign for Arkell's Brewery Ltd, still an independent brewery and public house operating company. The date, 1843, is when the original John Arkell started brewing beer in Swindon, where the company holds the record as the oldest company in the town. The image is of an ark with the letter 'L' within it, a rather obvious visualisation of the company name. The logo has now been changed as can be seen on their website LinkExternal link
