Steam winding engine, Elliot Colliery
Steam winding engine, Elliot Colliery
Restored horizontal twin tandem compound winding engine by Thornewill & Warham. Built as a duplex in 1891 with Cornish valve cylinders and tandem compounded in 1904 by the same company with Corliss valve HP cylinders. After many years unloved but secure, it was restored and can now be turned by an electric drive. Although there aren't many preserved engines in Wales, there are a few reminders of the once pre-eminent mining industry.
