Newton Parish Church.
Situated on the minor road between Newton Village and Danderhall in Midlothian, Newton Kirk is of some antiquity and was originally dedicated to St. Mary. and was in the superiority of the monks of Dunfermline. In 1584, the parish was united with Woomet or Wymeth (now Woolmet) The present church was built in 1742 and contains a loft which was exclusively installed for coal miners.
