ST3088 : GWR bench, platform 1, Newport railway station

taken 8 years ago, near to Newport/Casnewydd, Great Britain

GWR bench, platform 1, Newport railway station
GWR bench, platform 1, Newport railway station
The bench is a survivor from the days of the Great Western Railway, which became part of British Railways in 1948. The GWR lettering can be seen. With its metalwork now painted blue to match the column bases, it would originally have been painted in the GWR's traditional chocolate and cream colours.

Newport railway station is in the middle of a 22 million regeneration programme. This photo records how platform 1 looked at the end of January 2010. It is likely to look very different at the end of the regeneration, but I hope the GWR bench will survive.
