Hathorn, Davey horizontal tandem copmound non-rotative 'differential' pumping engine. A rare survivor of its type. The engine automatically adjusted itself to changes in the load by using a special valve motion that relied on the difference between a constant motion (provided by a separate steam cylinder/water cataract arrangement) and a variable motion (that of the engine itself as the load varied) - hence 'differential' engine.

This engine has now been removed and re-erected by a nearby roundabout.
