This is the southwest side of the viaduct which was opened on Whit Sunday, 16 May 1880. To the left of the picture there is a "blank end" alongside the viaduct. There is a corresponding one at the Barnsley Road end. These are the remains of the previous wooden viaduct that was opened 1 July 1847.
