NS4278 : The Spouts Burn

The Spouts Burn
The Spouts Burn
This view is intended mainly to provide some context for a better view of the old enclosure that is located alongside the burn: NS4278 : Old enclosure beside the Spouts Burn.

In the present photo, the enclosure is located on the right-hand side of the burn, but it is not particularly well seen. However, slightly above and to the right of the centre of the image, the shadow cast by the ridge can be seen; that ridge continues towards the right-hand edge of the image.
Enclosures beside the Spouts Burn
Immediately to the east of the Spouts Burn, a low bank forms an irregular four-sided enclosure which is shown on the first-edition OS map (surveyed in 1860), but not on later maps; this is the enclosure "90m to the SW" that is described at LinkExternal link (at Canmore). Its course is still visible on the ground; see LinkExternal link for an annotated satellite view, in which the four corners of the enclosure are indicated by green markers. Also marked on that view is a larger, fainter, and more irregular enclosure on the eastern side of the burn.
