Entrance to Clarence Graving Docks
Entrance to Clarence Graving Docks
These impressive stone gateposts stand either side of the entrance to the Clarence Graving Docks on Wellington Road. Between 1893 and 1956 the Liverpool Overhead Railway ran alongside the dock wall, restricting the access height to 18ft 2ins, and there was a station just north of this gateway. The railway was demolished in 1957. See also SJ3391 : Inscription and sign on Clarence Graving Docks gatepost and SJ3391 : Inscription on Clarence Graving Docks gatepost
