SD6178 : A65 Stanley bridge

A65 Stanley bridge
A65 Stanley bridge
A flooded River Lune dashes towards the modern A65 road bridge, seen from the Devil's bridge which used to carry the road, but is now restricted to pedestrians. However much it improves the traffic flow, it cannot be argued that the modern bridge is beautiful - not only is it concrete, but is painted in sickly clashing colours quite out of character with its surroundings. The old bridge, meanwhile, seems to attract hundreds of visitors every day during the summer, and quite a few in the winter too - despite the dreich weather and the swollen river, only about half the people on this day were canoeists who had come for the river rather than the scenery.
