Wisbech Conservative Club
Wisbech Conservative Club
This historic building in Hill Street dates from 1549 (the crow-stepped brick gable being a remnant of the original structure) and housed both the free grammar school and the assembly chamber of the town's burgesses. Thomas Clarkson, anti-slavery pioneer and one of the most illustrious natives of Wisbech, was born in the schoolhouse where his father was headmaster in 1760.
