The Ridgeway near Barbury Castle
The Ridgeway near Barbury Castle
The Ridgeway is an ancient trackway in use for at least 5,000 years, since neolithic times. Often considered Britain's oldest road, it goes from Overton Hill near Avebury, Wiltshire, to Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire. Today most of it is part of a long distance national trail. Up here on the Wiltshire downs, the busy nearby town of Swindon seems to belong to a different world. SU1476 : Looking towards Barbury Castle from The Ridgeway.
