Hurleston Locks No 4, Llangollen Canal, Cheshire
The Llangollen Canal joins the main line of the Shropshire Union canal at the bottom of this flight of four locks at Hurleston. This view shows the bottom lock, No 4. Both ground paddles are up, and the lock needs to fill by about another eighteen inches (45cm) before the narrowboat can proceed. This and the other three locks lower the water level by 34 feet and 3 inches (about 10.4 metres).

The maximum length for boats on this canal is 72 feet; this one is about 43 feet. The line of trees across the picture in the background line the towpath of the Shropshire Union Canal (Main Line).
