Grey Carrs trig. point
Grey Carrs trig. point
Lying just north of the bridleway leading from Ark on the Edge (Woolly Hill) to Eggleston, Grey Carrs is a featureless plateau covered by a mosaic of burnt heather and regrowth making the trig. point very hard to see from any distance. Fortunately, I had a GPS and reached the "top" minutes before an increasing easterly breeze brought dense hill fog over the area. Radiation fog had remained in patches in the valleys all day and was now building up into a very scenic thermal inversion in the setting sunlight, which looked great from up here, but did remind me that I had a considerable distance to go over snowed-in bridleway before finding a descent route into the valley fog. The ride back to the car in the freezing fog (and the dark) was worth it for the views on the tops.
