Spurn Bird Observatory accommodation block
Spurn Bird Observatory accommodation block
Offering basic, but very cheap hostel-type accommodation. It was built in 1953 for the men who looked after the new anti-aircraft guns which were installed at the Warren during the Cold War LinkExternal link The end of the Warren Heligoland trap can be seen behind. The trap works by people flushing birds along the bank into the funnel shaped trap and then collecting them from a box at the end for ringing. It can be very effective when larger numbers of thrushes arrive in the autumn. LinkExternal link
