Statues in George Square
Statues in George Square
It would be easy to imagine that Sir Walter Scott, the novelist and poet, is looking down from his plinth slightly disdainfully at Sir John Moore, the soldier. In fact, Sir John's statue predates Sir Walter's and was the first of George Square's statues, erected in 1819. Sir John Moore was a local man who commanded the British forces at the Battle of Corunna.
