SJ9675 : Yearns Low

taken 12 years ago, near to Rainow, Cheshire, Great Britain

Yearns Low
Yearns Low
The purpose of the stepped structure (which appears to be of recent construction) is uncertain. It stands on a Bronze Age bowl barrow - see LinkExternal link - with extensive views to Big Low and (in this direction) Ely Brow. The hollow in the centre is the result of 19th-century excavation. The barrow is unusual in Cheshire in displaying re-use during the Roman period.
