Proposed Belfast transport hub
In July 2013 Translink invited submissions from a design team to prepare proposals for a combined bus and railway station, maintenance and administration offices, close to the Boyne Bridge, based on an assumption of 13 million railway passengers annually by 2030.
Translink’s official description is “Creating A World Class Transport Hub
The new integrated transport hub for Belfast has the potential to become an iconic landmark building in the city. This is one of the most important development projects in the region. It will offer the very highest levels of operational performance as well as enhance the whole passenger journey experience, providing better facilities and additional capacity for both bus and rail services. Access will be significantly enhanced with a pedestrian journey that is attractive and enjoyable. The development will provide a range of benefits from – operational and economic to environmental and social – including many commercial income-generating opportunities”.
