The two roads running to the esplanade are Crowstone Avenue curving at the left, and Chalkwell Avenue to the right. Just offshore from Chalkwell Avenue is the tall obelisk-like Crow Stone (or Crowstone) TQ8585 : The Crowstone. Beyond this, the line of a hard is just visible. This gives a harder substrate for bringing boats to the shore.
