Sheriff's Pit Shaft
Sheriff's Pit Shaft
As part of Rosedales Iron Mining Industry this Shaft known as Sheriff's Pit operated like a coal mine. The men and horses entered the mine along an adit in the hillside. The ore was brought up the 270 feet (82m) shaft to the surface and loaded straight onto wagons for transport to the ironworks. This mine shaft ceased operations in 1911.
