Hi, Philip Pankhurst refers to The Ewe & Lamb Kington as having 'The Grumpiest Landlord' in Kington.
I am that Landlord and yes I am grumpy at times - but not normally with customers, apart from those who give me the ammo!
The name came about because my cook (who was just as grumpy) put up a sign outside advertising me as such. This led to tourists taking photos of the sign and placing it on various social network sites. Newspapers, including the Sun and Daily Mirror reported on it and I was asked to go on Radio programmes and T/V too.
Well it was good for business, although a bit boring at times, having my photo taken with customers. It has been said that we all have our moment of fame but why did mine have to be for being a GRUMP!!?.
Anyway Philip, I think Kington has had enough of me so I am now selling the Lamb and hoping to buy another pub in another location. This time I will try for the title of the HAPPIEST Landlord. Cheers John
