Aethelfleda Monument, Tamworth
At the base of the castle mound stands a monument to Aethefleda, daughter to King Alfred the Great. Known as ‘Lady of the Mercians’, Aethelfleda governed the Kingdom of Mercia from 913 – 918 AD and led attacks on the invading Danes.
