Shops, Lower Gungate, Tamworth
An information board states that these have been converted from four workmen's cottages. The arches over the shop fronts were added in the 1970s. These were quite large, being through houses with three floors. Five Ionic pilaster capitals and a stone Fleur de lys seal dating from the Old Grammar School of 1668 are preserved between the first floor windows. The new Grammar School was built in 1867-8, and the old building demolished and these houses built in its place.
