Pit Top
Pit Top
These foundations of the drum winding house are all that visible in the summer growth of the once thriving community of Pit Top which once boasted two rows of cottages, a shop, chapel and a school. Miners in the Eston Mines had to exit the mines at Pit Top and walk back over the moor to Eston. For anyone wanting to discover more about the ironstone mines of Eston then they should see the film "Century of Stone" (LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link )
