Geograph - photograph every grid square

This project commemorates the 11th Earl of Buchan, who lived at Kirkhill House, Broxburn, in the 18th Century. He built an astronomical pillar, with carved Latin inscriptions and astronomical equations, along with a belltower and cross. The pillar was relocated to the visitor centre at the Almondell & Calderwood Country Park and Artlink Edinburgh and the Lothians coordinated this community art project, in which 11 pieces of art, representing a scale model of the solar system, are distributed around West Lothian, making a sculpture trail around the landscape. Broxburn Academy was chosen to be the centre of this solar system. It seemed ideal not only because it was close to Kirkhill House - the original site of the Pillar - but because of its links to learning.
