Croggan shore
Croggan is a very tiny settlement at the end of a narrow road a long way from the main settlements on Mull. The road is tarmac-coated about as far as where the photographer was standing, but is not in a very good state of repair except in the village itself. Beyond this point is only a rocky landrover track leading to Portfield. I wondered why a community this size needed such a substantial pier, but closer approach showed that it didn't - the end is ruined with no deck, and the small building at the landward end has no roof. One presumes that the pier has not been needed since the road was built.
Across Loch Spelve, snow still lies on the slopes of Creach-Beinn whilst on this side, the frost still lies heavily on the grass this early March morning, despite the promise of bright sunshine for half an hour or so before the cloud rolled in.
