Sheep in Danger
Sheep in Danger
The Blakey ridge road is one of few 'main' roads where there is still unfenced moorland alongside the tarmac.
Unfortunately the carnage is shocking, despite numerous signs like this one it's normal for at least two or three sheep to be hit and killed by vehicles every week.
Having never hit one myself I assume part of the problem is people are not familiar with typical sheep behaviour and so can't predict their movements.
Also of course many are simply driving faster than they should near the animals.
A sheep weighs almost as much as an adult human, and can do a lot of damage to a car if hit at any speed.
