Shale waterfall, Black Clough
Rather than follow the footpath I dropped down to the left to follow the streambed and was rewarded by the discovery of an interesting little valley with lots of geographic interest and photographic potential. The stream runs through soft shales here (shales are often associated with coal, and there are old coal pits in this area) and has created some interesting features such as this small but symmetrical waterfall.
